Premium Yerba Mate, Cut and Sifted (Ilex paraguariensis) 🧉

Yerba Mate is the bright, green-tasting leaf at the heart of South America's most beloved daily ritual, and our Premium cut and sifted grade is ready for the gourd, the infuser, or your favorite teapot. In the cup it leans crisp and vegetal, with the clean lift of green tea, a cool note of forest, and a soft, dandelion-bitter finish. Packed in small batches and resealable for freshness, it sits comfortably among the rest of our loose-leaf teas. 🍃

For generations, Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguariensis) has been shared as a social and energizing brew across Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, traditionally valued for its smooth, sustained lift and its place in focus and daily vitality. It naturally carries caffeine alongside theobromine and a spectrum of antioxidants, which is why so many tea drinkers reach for it in place of coffee. If a steady, even energy is what you are after, you will find it in good company among our herbs for natural energy and in our guide to boosting your energy naturally with powerful herbs.

🌿 From the Sacred Plant Co Farm

Sacred Plant Co is a soil-first farm. Our own farm in Colorado earned a groundbreaking Haney Soil Health Score of 25.4, a number that surpasses the soil biology measured in pristine forest land. That score is the heart of who we are. We believe healthier soil grows more complex, more potent plants, and that philosophy is the reason we hold every herb we carry to the same biological and per-lot testing standards.

Yerba Mate is native to the subtropical Atlantic forests of South America and grows best in the warm, humid conditions it evolved in. We partner with a vetted Brazilian farm that specializes in exactly those conditions and grows it right where it flourishes, to the same soil-first, biological standard that defines our own Colorado farm.

Every lot we ship receives the same per-batch lab work as everything we carry. We publish each lot's Certificate of Analysis on a single, historical COA article page, so you can verify the exact batch in your hands for purity and potency.

Safety and Usage Notes

Yerba Mate naturally contains caffeine, which most people enjoy for its gentle, sustained lift. If you are sensitive to caffeine, or have been advised to limit it, start with a shorter steep and a smaller serving. Large or frequent servings can bring on the usual caffeine-related effects, such as restlessness, a faster heartbeat, or trouble sleeping.

Mate is traditionally enjoyed hot, and the most current guidance favors brewing it at a comfortable temperature rather than scalding, and enjoying it in moderation, since very hot beverages consumed in large amounts over long periods have been associated with increased risk to the throat and esophagus, a risk that is higher for those who also smoke or drink alcohol.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication, or managing a health condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this Yerba Mate taste like?

We would describe this lot as crisp and green, led by the clean, vegetal lift of green tea, followed by a cool, woodsy note of forest and a soft, dandelion-bitter finish. It is bright rather than smoky, which makes it easy to enjoy on its own or to brighten with mint, lemongrass, or a twist of citrus. Brewed gently, it stays smooth and refreshing from the first cup through several refills.

How do I brew loose Yerba Mate for the best flavor?

Heat fresh water to about 150 to 160 degrees F, just below a boil, and use roughly one tablespoon of cut and sifted mate per cup. Pour the hot water over the leaves in a gourd, infuser, or teapot, then steep for three to five minutes and sip. Keeping the water hot rather than boiling protects the bright, green character of the leaf, and the same mate happily re-steeps several times.

Where does this Yerba Mate come from, and is it tested?

Yerba Mate is native to the subtropical forests of South America, so we partner with a vetted Brazilian farm that grows it right where it flourishes, to the same soil-first, biological standard that defines our own Colorado farm. Every lot we ship receives the same per-batch lab work as everything we carry, and we publish each lot's Certificate of Analysis on a single historical COA article page so you can verify the exact batch in your hands. Every order is also backed by our 100% money-back guarantee. Our policy is simple: if you aren't happy, send it back and receive a full refund. Anytime, for any reason.

Can I drink this if I am sensitive to caffeine or if I am pregnant?

Yerba Mate naturally contains caffeine, so if you are sensitive to it, we suggest a shorter steep and a smaller serving to start. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing a health condition, we always recommend checking with your qualified healthcare provider before adding any new herb to your routine. As with any caffeinated brew, we love it best enjoyed at a comfortable temperature and in a way that feels good for you.

Soft and cozy, sizing seems a bit inconsistent
Size: Queen (90x90 Inch), Color: Sage Green
I actually ordered two of these blankets in two different colors. We had urgent need to add a bed with all new bedding (medical reasons), so I ordered these blankets in a rush. The quality of the blankets seems good. They are very soft and cozy. Lightweight, yet warm. The only issue is that two blankets that should be identical in all ways other than color are actually not even close in size. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get these blankets to line up equally. I really don't like having one blanket hanging lower than the other, especially now that this bed is just inside our front door where every visitor can see it. The king size quilt should in theory cover this discrepancy, but it doesn't fit correctly (another issue). It also means that the blankets are not equally distributed over me and my husband at night. Other than the size inconsistency, I really like these blankets and think they are good value, plenty warm for Wisconsin winters when doubled up with sheets and quilt.

Soft fuzzy polyester king sized fleece blanket with no static electricity
Size: King (90x102 Inch), Color: Grey, Size: King (90x102 Inch), Color: Grey
I ordered the gray color because it was cheaper than the other colors, but it looks nice. This blanket was actually a lot nicer than I was expecting. It is pretty thick, very soft, fuzzy on both sides, fits the king sized bed, and keeps me warm with little extra weight. It is breathable and doesn't make me sweaty. The price was really very good, better than what I saw when shopping in local big stores. This feels great on the skin, and is much more comfortable than heavy wool blankets or quilts. When folded up it doesn't take up much room. It fits well in the washing machine. One of the best features is that it doesn't seem to generate static electricity even in dry air. In general I don't care for synthetic fibers, but I'm making an exception with this blanket, which stays clean and fluffy after extended use. I've had it 2.5 months with no problems and no manufacturing defects detected. The hem stitching is tidy and strong, very neat. I'm thinking of ordering a smaller one to keep in the car for emergencies and outings. I wish all the colors were a similar low price. I have recommended this blanket to friends.

Best blankets ever
Size: King (90x102 Inch), Color: Navy
Gorgeous blanket. I have many of them. They wash up great and look good. They are soft and warm. I only returned this one because the color was off. It looked more like a light to medium blue, but is actually a very light blue.

Size: King (90x102 Inch), Color: White
I absolutely love my blanket. It’s super soft and very comfortable, and it looks really beautiful. It keeps you warm, but it’s not very thick it’s on the lighter side. Even so, I highly recommend it

Beauty Quality Excellent Price!
Size: Queen (90x90 Inch), Color: Olive
Wonderful quality blanket! It’s light weight, warm without being heavy, beautiful rich color. Super fast shipping. Came in a smallish box and I was a little worried it would be cheap, but being experienced with items that come with the air sucked out so I waited to see. Sure enough, once the plastic was off it fluffed out and I popped it in the dryer for 5 minutes and all the wrinkles were gone too! I absolutely don’t need a bed spread because the finish looks like expensive silk velvet! I’m buying more for the other bedrooms! I ordered a Queen, olive, 90”x90”, price is incredible and I would have paid double to get this kind of quality! Love the rich feel and gorgeous color of this blanket. I know they call it olive but it is actually a deep luxurious fern from an untouched dark forest filled with fairy houses and wonderous beings! I’m getting another, sigh…
